The Goliath Bird-Eating Spider is the largest spider in the world, and is well-known to occasionally feed on vertebrates. It was named after Victorian reporters who spotted it eating a hummingbird.

This species of spider can reach a diameter of 28cm (almost a foot), around the size of a normal dinner plate.

This tarantula is exclusively carnivorous, though it very rarely feeds on birds in the wild.
